Ojibwe (also called Anishinaabemowin) is part of the large Algonquian family that once stretched from the Atlantic coast to the Rocky Mountains, and it remains closely related to Cree and Potawatomi. It has a larger speaker base than most Indigenous North American languages, with strong communities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ontario. Both a Latin-based orthography and a syllabics-influenced double-vowel system are used for writing it today.
